Our offer
The study, collection and trade of coins lies at the heart of our traditional company. Although our main focus is in ancient numismatics, our service encompasses coins and medals of all major collection areas, from ancient to modern times. Apart from buying and selling coins, we advise our clients how best to develop their collections, and offer information on all matters of numismatics and monetary history.
The Kölner Münzkabinett is one of the few German dealers with proven expertise in the field of ancient glyptic art. We deal in gems and seal stones from all periods of history. Due to our excellent connections and huge network of gem collectors and traders within Europe, we are able to ensure first class provenances.
The Kölner Münzkabinett deals in ancient artefacts from all periods of history. We offer prehistoric artefacts, as well as ancient Egyptian, Greek, Etruscan, and Roman objects such as jewellery, pottery, glassware, terracotta, stone and bronze objects. We carefully check the authenticity and provenance of all objects offered, giving assurance that we deal only in archaeological objects from legal sources with impeccable provenances from German and European collections.
The Kölner Münzkabinett is the only auctionhouse for coins in Cologne
The Kölner Münzkabinett was founded in 1968 by Tyll Kroha and Dr. Günther Brockmann, and had always the reputation, amongst collectors, of being more a numismatic specialist store than coin dealer. In 2014 Tyll Kroha handed the Kölner Münzkabinett to his successor Kai Scheuermann, who, with Christoph Heinen, continues to run it, following the death of Kroha in 2015. The wealth of experience in trading coins, the numismatic expertise of the staff, in addition to the individual support and advice in a family atmosphere are highly appreciated by our numerous customers. We are fortunate to be able to rely, not only on a numismatic library, but also on the expert advice of a network of external specialists.
The Kölner Münzkabinett regularly holds two floor and two e-auctions a year, and is the last operating auction house in Cologne, auctioning coins and medals, as well as primitive money, scales and weights. In addition, our range includes ancient gems and jewellery, antiquities, modern seals and numismatic literature. Up to 1500 lots are offered per auction. The high quality and richly illustrated auction catalogues will be sent to more than 1000 collectors and dealers around the world. For our ever-growing international customer base the auctions are accessible through the internet platforms ‘Sixbid’ and ‘Numisbids’.
In addition to auctioning, the Kölner Münzkabinett constantly buys and sells coins – both in store and on the internet. Our main focus is in ancient numismatics (Celtic, Greek, Roman and Byzantine coins), coins from the Middle Ages, and special coins and medals of the modern era. Furthermore, we also deal in ancient artefacts such as Roman glassware, oil lamps, vessels, terracottas, gems and jewellery, as well as scales and weights.
But it is not only the interesting range of coins and antiquities, that makes the Kölner Münzkabinett so special for collectors. We are always available for an expert discussion or a small chat, and will help you to assess the value of your collectibles.
We look forward to your visit!
